1640 - 1686 Person Name: Nicholas le Tourneaux Author of "Angels Come On Joyous Pinion" in The Cyber Hymnal Le Tourneux, Nicolas, was born of poor parents at Rouen, April 30, 1640. The uncommon ability he displayed at an early age attracted the notice of M. du Fosset, Maître des Comptes at Rouen, who sent him to the Jesuits' college at Paris, where he made remarkable progress in his studies. He then retired to Touraine, where he passed some time with a pious ecclesiastic in the practice of prayer and penitential exercises. His friend, observing that he had a gift for preaching, advised him to return to Rouen. This he did, and adopted the clerical profession, and was in 1662 admitted to priests' orders by special dispensation, though still under canonical age. He subsequently removed to Paris, where he employed his time in study, and in 1675 obtained the prize given by the French Academy for prose composition. He was appointed to a canonry at the Sainte-Chapelle, and later became prior of Villiers sur Fere in the diocese of Soissons, and died suddenly on the 28th Nov., 1686. He was the author of several theological and religious works, and wrote some hymns, which were inserted in the Cluniac Breviary of 1686, and the Paris Breviary of 1680. F. E. Belden

1858 - 1945 Person Name: F. E. B. Arranger of "REGENT SQUARE" in Christ in Song Belden was born in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1858. He began writing music in his late teenage years after moving to California with his family. For health reasons he later moved to Colorado. He returned to Battle Creek with his wife in the early 1880s, and there he became involved in Adventist Church publishing. F. E. Belden wrote many hymn tunes, gospel songs, and related texts in the early years of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Belden was able to rapidly write both music and poetry together which enabled him to write a song to fit a sermon while it was still being delivered. He also wrote songs for evangelist Billy Sunday. Though Belden’s later years were marred by misunderstandings with the church leadership over his royalties, he did donate his papers and manuscripts to the church’s seminary at his death. Leslie, Frank Ernest Newton, Edwyn Vincent, Hermann von Müller ============ Bonner, Carey, was born in Southwark, Surrey, May 1, 1859. He entered the Baptist ministry after studying at Rawdon College, and held pastorates at Sale, Manchester (1884-95) and Portland, Southampton (1895-1900). Since Sept. 1900 he has been Secretary of the Sunday School Union. He edited words and music of the Garland of New Sunday School Music (issued in parts, 1881 and 1882; complete edition 1886), and the S. S. Hymnary, 1905; and the music of the Christian Endeavour Hymnal, 1896, and the Junior Hymnal, 1906. The longer hymns contributed by him to these works include:— 1. Father, hear Thy children's voices. [S. S. Anniversary.] Written 1905 for a Sunday School Festival at Toledo, Ohio, 1905, as above, No. 362. 2. Gently a voice is pleading.
