Peter's Chanty

Author: Herman G. Stuempfle, Jr. Meter: 8.6.8.6.6 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Mark 4:35-41 First Line: You never saw old Galilee Lyrics: 1 You never saw old Galilee so friendly and so fair. My mates and I sang merrily and never had a care, and never had a care. 2 Out where the sea runs green and cold and many fathoms deep, I called my mates, "Look in the hold! The Master's gone asleep! The Master's gone asleep!" 3 And then the clouds grew grim and black; there blew an awful gale. "Heave to, my mates, the mast will crack, if we don't low'r the sail, if we don't low'r the sail!" 4 The rain poured down, the waves leapt high, the winds they whipped us round and tossed us toward the terrible sky and roared their terrible sound, and roared their terrible sound. 5 We roused the Master from his sleep and called his name in dread: "Come, save us from the awful deep, or we're as good as dead, or we're as good as dead!" 6 Then up he stood against the gale, and told the storm to cease. Tempestuous winds broke off their wail; waves calmed and lay at peace, waves calmed and lay at peace. 7 So, friends, although the sea be wide, and though your boat be small, there's naught to fear from time or tide; the Master's Lord of all, the Master's Lord of all. 8 Then sing, my friends, sing merrily; O sing both bold and brave. The One who made the surging sea still rules the wind and wave, still rules the wind and wave. Topics: Know Epiphany/Ministry and Teaching of Christ Used With Tune: PETER'S CHANTY

Let Me be Thine

Author: W. Bennett Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Mark 4:39 First Line: Thine, Lord, O may I be Lyrics: 1 Thine, Lord, O may I be, Teach me Thy will; Draw my cold heart to Thee, With rapture thrill; Banish my guilty fear, Dry every bitter tear, My troubled spirit cheer, Say, “Peace, be still.” 2 Keep me in danger’s hour Near to Thy side; On me Thy Spirit pour, With me abide; Bid every doubt depart, Fully possess my heart; Mine be that better part, In Thee to hide. 3 Thus shall I sweetly prove, While here below, Thy tender, dying love, Thee truly know; And when my work is done, When I the race have run, May glory’s crown be won, Sweet rest with Thee. Used With Tune: [Thine, Lord, O may I be]

The anchor holds

Author: El Nathan Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Mark 4:39 First Line: The storm is high, but at the helm Refrain First Line: The anchor holds O praise the Lord Lyrics: 1 The storm is high, but at the helm, My Lord is in command; No swelling sea nor tempest fierce, Can pluck me from His hand. Refrain: The anchor holds, O praise the Lord! ‘Tis fast within the vail; ‘Tis steadfast, sure, as God’s own word, The storms cannot prevail. 2 The winds and waves obey the will Of Him, who died for me; Why should I, then, their tumult fear, Or dread the raging sea? [Refrain] 3 Though darkness dread is on the deep, He knows the way I take, And so in peace I’ll lay me down, For with Him I shall wake. [Refrain] 4 The sun in splendor o’er the sea Shall shine at God’s command; The clouds shall pass, the waves grow still, Beneath my Saviour’s hand. [Refrain] Topics: Refuge Used With Tune: [The storm is high but at the helm]
