What more can he say than to you he has said, to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled? 2 "Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed, for I am your God, and will still give you aid; I'll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand, upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand. 3 "The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose I will not, I will not desert to its foes; that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I'll never, no, never, no never forsake!" When Jesus Led His Chosen Three

Author: Christopher Idle Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 4 hymnals Topics: Epiphany Transfiguration Lyrics: 1. When Jesus led his chosen three To lift the shadow from their sight, And on the mountain let them see His face transfigured, crowned with light: What grace that day to them was given! To men on Earth, a glimpse of Heav'n. 2. There Moses and Elijah stood And spoke about his exodus, Their freedom purchased by his blood, A passover most marvellous! The law and prophets meet their Lord, See God revealed, and man restored. 3. Then from the cloud there came a voice, "This is my own belovèd Son"; The Scriptures' theme, the Father's choice, Their master stood supreme, alone: They saw his glory, and they heard The one eternal, living Word. 4. So may we see and know this grace: The truth, which like a burning light Illuminates the darkest place Till Christ himself shall end the night: When to his people's longing eyes God's day shall dawn, his sun shall rise. Scripture: 2 Peter 1:16-18 Used With Tune: STELLA

My Soul, Praise the LORD!

Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 9 hymnals Topics: Church Year Transfiguration First Line: My soul, praise the LORD! The LORD is most great Refrain First Line: Your Spirit, O LORD, makes life to abound Lyrics: 1 My soul, praise the LORD! The LORD is most great, with glory arrayed, majestic in state. The light is his garment, the skies form a tent, and over the waters his couriers are sent. 2 He rides on the clouds and wings of the storm. The lightning and wind his mission perform. Foundations of earth he forever has stayed; to cover it, oceans like garments were laid. 3 On mountains and plains the dark waters lay. They heard his rebuke and hurried away. He lifted the mountains, to valleys gave birth, set boundaries for seas that once covered the earth. Refrain: Your Spirit, O LORD, makes life to abound. The earth is renewed, and fruitful the ground. To God be all glory and wisdom and might. May God in his creatures forever delight. 4 God causes the springs of water to flow in streams from the hills to valleys below. The LORD gives the streams for all living things there, while birds with their singing enrapture the air. 5 Down mountains and hills your showers are sent. With fruit of your work the earth is content. You give grass for cattle and food for our toil, enriching our labors with bread, wine, and oil. 6 The trees that the LORD has planted are fed, and over the earth their branches are spread. They keep in their shelter the birds of the air. The life of each creature God keeps in his care. [Refrain] 7 The seasons are fixed by wisdom divine. The slow-changing moon shows forth God's design. The sun in its circuit its Maker obeys and, running its journey, hastes not nor delays. 8 The LORD makes the night, when, leaving their lair, the lions go forth, God's bounty to share. The LORD makes the morning, when beasts steal away, when we are beginning the work of the day. 9 How many and wise the works of the LORD! The earth with its wealth of creatures is stored. The sea bears in safety the ships to and fro; Leviathan plays in the waters below. 10 Your creatures all look to you for their food. Your hand opens wide, they gather the good. When you hide your face, LORD, in anguish they yearn; when you stop their breathing, to dust they return. [Refrain] 11 Before the LORD's might earth trembles and quakes. The mountains are rent, and smoke from them breaks. I promise to worship the LORD all my days. Yes, while I have being, my God I will praise. 12 Rejoicing in God, my thought shall be sweet. May sinners depart in ruin complete. My soul, praise the LORD God - his name be adored. Come, praise him, all people, and worship the LORD. Scripture: Psalm 104 Used With Tune: HANOVER Text Sources: Psalter, 1912, alt.

Your kingdom come, O God!

Author: L. Hensley (1824-1905) Meter: 6.6.6.6 Appears in 134 hymnals Topics: Lent 4, The King and the Kingdom Transfiguration Lyrics: 1 Your kingdom come, O God! your rule, O Christ, begin; break with thine iron rod the tyrannies of sin, 2 Where is your reign of peace and purity and love? When shall all hatred cease, as in the realms above? 3 When comes the promised time, the end of strife and war; when lust, oppression, crime and greed shall be no more? 4 O Lord our God, arise and come in your great might! revive our longing eyes which languish for your sight. 5 As rebels scorn your name and wolves devour your fold, by many deeds of shame we learn that love grows cold. 6 On nations near or far thick darkness gathers yet: arise, O Morning Star, arise and never set! Used With Tune: ST. CECILIA

I Danced in the Morning

Author: Sydney Carter Meter: Irregular Appears in 55 hymnals Topics: Christian Year Transfiguration First Line: I danced in the morning when the world was begun Refrain First Line: Dance, then, wherever you may be Lyrics: 1 I danced in the morning when the world was begun, and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth. At Bethlehem I had my birth. Refrain: Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, and I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, and I'll lead you all in the dance, said he. 2 I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee, but they would not dance and they would not follow me. I danced for the fishermen, for James and John. They came with me and the dance went on. [Refrain] 3 I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame. The holy people said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high, and left me there on a cross to die. [Refrain] 4 I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black. It's hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I'd gone, but I am the dance and I still go on. [Refrain] 5 They cut me down and I leapt up high. I am the life that will never, never die. I'll live in you if you'll live in me, I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. [Refrain] Scripture: Matthew 11:17 Used With Tune: LORD OF THE DANCE

God, you are clothed with light

Author: John Brownlie, 1857-1925 Meter: 6.6.6.6.8.8 Appears in 4 hymnals Topics: Saints Days and Holy Days Transfiguration Lyrics: 1 God, you are clothed with light, as with a garment fair, and in your holy sight the saints your beauty wear; the heavens and all therein express the glory of your holiness. 2 Give me a robe of light that I may walk with you; bright as the stars are bright, pure as their light is pure; Whose texture sin shall never stain, but ever undefiled remain. 3 But can a sinner dare, in rags, and sore ashamed, lift up to God the prayer which now my lips have framed, while glowing seraphs fold their wings, and pour their sinless offerings? 4 O Christ, I lift mine eyes; your love for me I own; in your great sacrifice remains my hope alone; the robe is mine, my soul to dress, of everlasting righteousness. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 Used With Tune: HAREWOOD Text Sources: Hymn from the Russian Church
