Hall, Camb., B.A. 1877, M.A. 1880. Ordained in 1879 to the Curacy of Doncaster. Subsequently Vicar of North Holmwood, Surrey, 1891-1900, and of St. Augustin's, Bournemouth, from 1900. He has published The Work of the Holy Spirit, 1894; Convalescence, 1897; Lessons from the Passion, 1899, &c. His hymns include:— 1. Behold, Lord! how the nations rage, [In Time of War.] Written "For Use during the War between Russia and Japan," in 1904, and printed as a leaflet by Jarvis & Co., Bournemouth. 2. Lord, while afar our brothers fight. [In Time of War.] Written at Holmwood, Surrey, in 1899, after the reverse of Colenso, and extensively used during the S. African War. Given in the 1904 ed. of Hymns Ancient & Modern. 3. 0 Saviour, once again the ebbing year. [For a Memorial Service.] Written at Holmwood, in 1898, for Queen Victoria's annual Service in memory of the Prince Consort. Included in Hymns of the Christ. Centuries, 1903. 4. 0 Son of God, enthroned above. [Advent] Written at Holmwood, in 1892, and given in M. Woodward's Children's Service Book, 1897. 5. Pressing forward. [Processional.] Also in Woodward's Children's Service Book, 1897. Written at Bournemouth, in 1888. 6. Son of God, Eternal Saviour. [For Unity.] Written at Holmwood, in 1893 ; printed in Goodwill, Feb. 1894, and included in the 1904 ed. of Hymns Ancient & Modern. 7. We meet as we have never met before. Died: Oc­to­ber 1, 1862, Green­ock, Scot­land. Buried: Green­ock, Scot­land. Neil’s fa­ther, wheel­wright Neill Dou­gall, was draft­ed in­to the ar­my, and died in Cey­lon (now Sri Lanka) when his son was on­ly four years old. At age 15, Neil be­came an ap­pren­tice on the ship Bri­tan­nia. In 1795, while he was load­ing a gun to fire the se­cond vol­ley of a sa­lute to com­mem­o­rate Lord Howe’s vic­to­ry over the French, an ex­plo­sion blind­ed him and took his arm. Af­ter re­cov­er­ing, he be­gan his mu­sic­al ca­reer. In 1798, he at­tend­ed a sing­ing class un­der Ro­bert Dun­can, and in the fall of the next year opened his own class, which he ran un­til 1844. Lawrence Bartlett

1933 - 2002 Person Name: Lawrence Francis Bartlett, 1933- Topics: Consummation in Christ Arranger of "NATOMAH" in Together in Song Lawrence Bartlett was born in Sydney on the February 13, 1933. He studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music between 1950 and 1957, and at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 1960. He also studied organ, piano, singing and composition. He was the Assistant Director of Music at the King's School, Parramatta, a tutor in church music at Ridley College in Melbourne and in 1965 he was acting cathedral organist and master of the choristers at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney. Bartlett was an Anglican clergyman and wrote many compositions suitable for church performance. Bartlett was also a member of the Australian Hymn Book committee, and has been involved in the initiation of schemes for promoting the composition and performance of new liturgical music. Mary Shekleton

She was for many years an invalid, during which time she wrote several hymns, which were printed in broadsheet form. Several of these are given in Chosen, Chastened, Crowned.
