John Roy Harris (who typically went by "Roy") was born on either the 9th or 12th of December, 1915, in Brixey, Missouri. His studied education at the Southwest Missouri State College, and music at the Stamps-Baxter School of Music in Dallas. He was a preacher for the Churches of Christ, sometimes with full-time support and sometimes while also teaching school. He was well known as a song leader, and also taught singing schools. He died June 11, 2010 in Bolivar, Missouri.
