Ella A. Boole

1858 - 1952 Person Name: Ella Alexander Boole Author of "Our battle song" in The Good Templar Songster for Temperance Meetings and the Home Circle. 2nd ed Ella Alexander Boole was born in 1858 in Van Wert, Ohio. She received a A.B., A.M. and Ph.D from University of Wooster. She taught languages and mathematics in the high school in Van Wert County, conducted teachers' institutes and taught modern Greek at Island Park Assembly in Indiana. In 1883 she married Rev. William H. Boole. After her marriage she served as corresponding secretary of the Woman's Board of Home Missions of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. However, she is known for her temperance work. She was active in the W.C.T.U. (Women's Christian Temperance Union) in New York and nationally. She ran in 1920 for U.s. Senator from New York on the Prohibition ticket. She served as president of the national organization from 1925-1933.
