Thomas B. Southgate

1814 - 1868 Person Name: Thomas Bishop Southgate Composer of "BROOKFIELD" in The Cyber Hymnal Southgate, Thomas Bishop, born at Hornsey, Middlesex, June 8, 1814; educated in the school of the Chapel Royal, where he was a chorister; studied harmony under Thomas Attwood and Sir John Goss, and the organ under Samuel Wesley; organist of Hornsey Church from 1834 to 1853, and of St Anne's, Highgate Rise, London, from the latter year until his death, which occured at Highgate, November 3, 1868. EVENSONG, No. 320 F.C.H., was published in sheet form in 1858, set to the words "God that madest earth and heaven." --James Love, Scottish Church Music: Its Composers and Sources (1891)

Rosa M. Gilbert

1841 - 1921 Person Name: Rosa Mulholland Author of "Give Me, O Lord, a Heart of Grace" in The Cyber Hymnal Gilbert, Rosa, née Mulholland, daughter of J. S. Mulholland, M.D., of Belfast, and wife of Sir John T. Gilbert, is the author of Vagrant Verses, 1886, and many novels, &c. Her hymn, "Give me, O Lord, a heart of Grace" (Resignation), is in Horder's Worship Song, 1905, and others. It is from her Vagrant Verses, p. 154, where it is given as "A Prayer." [Rev. He was a descendant of John Blow. William served as Rec­tor of Lay­er Bre­ton, Es­sex, and was an am­a­teur vi­o­lin­ist and vi­o­lin col­lect­or. William Dixon

1750 - 1825 Person Name: Robert W. Dixon Author of "Give me, O Lord, a heart of grace" in The New Hymnal of Praise William Dixon b. ? Lndon, c. 1760; d. there 1825) composer, writer, teacher and music-engraver; lived partly in London, partly in Liverpool, where he was apparently connected with All Saints' Church. He composed 'Psalmodia Christiana," a collection of sacred music (1790); 'Euphonia,' 62 psalm and hymn tunes in 4 parts for All Saints' Church, Liverpool' Moralities, or verses on music, friendship, avarice, etc.' services, anthems, glees; also som numbers in Arnold's collection of hymn tunes. He also wrote an Introduction ot Singing, 1795) Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians (vol. 2) by H. C. Colles (Macmillan Company, 1906)
