Praise the Lord Who Reigns Above

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.7.7.6 Appears in 124 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Praise the Lord who reigns above and keeps His court below; Praise the holy God of love and all His greatness show; Praise Him for His noble deeds; praise Him for His matchless power; Him from whom all good proceeds let earth and Heaven adore. 2. Publish, spread to all around the great Jehovah’s name, Let the trumpet’s martial sound the Lord of hosts proclaim: Praise Him in the sacred dance, harmony’s full concert raise, Let the virgin choir advance, and move but to His praise. 3. Celebrate th’eternal God with harp and psaltery, Timbrels soft and cymbals loud in this high praise agree; Praise with every tuneful string; all the reach of heavenly art, All the powers of music bring, the music of the heart. 4. God, in whom they move and live, let every creature sing, Glory to their maker give, and homage to their King. Hallowed be Thy name beneath, as in Heaven on earth adored; Praise the Lord in every breath, let all things praise the Lord. O the Depth of Love Divine

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.7.7.6 Appears in 6 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O the depth of love divine, the unfathomable grace! Who shall say how bread and wine God into us conveys! How the bread his flesh imparts, how the wine transmits his blood, fills his faithful people’s hearts with all the life of God! 2 Let the wisest mortals show how we the grace receive; feeble elements bestow a power not theirs to give. Who explains the wondrous way, how through these the virtue came? These the virtue did convey, yet still remain the same. 3 How can spirits heavenward rise, by earthly matter fed, drink herewith divine supplies and eat immortal bread? Ask the Father’s wisdom how: Christ who did the means ordain; angels round our altars bow to search it out, in vain. 4 Sure and real is the grace, the manner be unknown; only meet us in thy ways and perfect us in one. Let us taste the heavenly powers, Lord, we ask for nothing more. Thine to bless, ’tis only ours to wonder and adore. Scripture: John 6:35-58 Used With Tune: AMSTERDAM

Sinner, Hear The Savior's Call

Author: John Newton Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.7.7.6 Appears in 58 hymnals First Line: Sinner, hear the Savior’s call Lyrics: 1 Sinner, hear the Savior’s call, He now is passing by; He has seen thy grievous thrall, And heard thy mournful cry. He has pardons to impart, Grace to save thee from thy fears; See the love that fills His heart, And wipe away thy tears. 2 Why art thou afraid to come And tell Him all thy case? He will not pronounce thy doom, Nor frown thee from His face: Wilt thou fear Emmanuel? Wilt thou dread the Lamb of God, Who, to save thy soul from hell, Has shed His precious blood? 3 Think, how on the cross He hung Pierced with a thousand wounds! Hark, from each as with a tongue The voice of pardon sounds! See, from all His bursting veins, Blood, of wondrous virtue, flow! Shed to wash away thy stains, And ransom thee from woe. 4 Though His majesty be great, His mercy is no less; Though He thy transgressions hate, He feels for thy distress: By Himself the Lord has sworn, He delights not in thy death; But invites thee to return, That thou mayst live by faith. 5 Raise thy downcast eyes, and see What throngs His throne surround! These, though sinners once like thee, Have full salvation found: Yield not then to unbelief! While He says, "There yet is room"; Though of sinners thou art chief, Since Jesus calls thee, come. Used With Tune: AMSTERDAM Text Sources: Olney Hymns (London, W. Oliver, 1779), Book 3
