Asa Hull

1828 - 1907 Composer of "[Go, ye messengers of God]" in Gleanings of Sacred Song Asa Hull USA 1828-1907. Born in Keene, NY, he became a music publisher in New York City. He married Emma F Atherton, and they had a daughter, Harriett. He wrote many tunes and authored temperance rallying songs. He published 33 works, of which 21 were songbooks, between 1863-1895. He died in Philadelphia, PA. John Perry

Joshua Marsden

1777 - 1837 Author of "Bear the Tidings" in Gleanings of Sacred Song Marsden, Joshua, a Wesleyan Methodist Missionary in Nova Scotia, and afterwards in the Bermuda Islands, born in 1777, and died in 1837. He published Amusements of a Mission, N. Y., 1812, in which a poem on Missions appeared as "Go, ye messengers of God." In his Narrative of a Mission (2nd ed.), 1827, he claims this as his own. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907)
