He was a so­cial re­for­mer and au­thor, lyricist, printer and editor of The Sol­diers’ Friend, a news­let­ter for Ci­vil War ve­ter­ans. He served as chap­lain of Cen­tral Park Hos­pi­tal, a mil­i­tary hos­pi­tal in New York Ci­ty. He died on June 6, 1901 at Montclair, New Jersey.
