He walked that lonesome road

Representative Text

1 He walked that lonesome road
Up Calvary,
He bore a heavy load
For you and me;
In blood He paid the price
That only could suffice,
He died a sacrifice
Upon the tree.
He did not count the cost
And turn away,
He’d come to seek the lost
Who’d gone astray;
He paid the debt we owed
And set us free
When He walked that lonesome road
Up Calvary.

2 They sealed Him in the tomb
What grief! But then
He broke its pow’r and gloom
And rose again!
Today He lives on high
To hear our faintest cry,
He’s coming by and by—
We know not when,
What boundless grace and love
That brought Him down
From His bright home above—
His throne and crown;
And here with no above,
In poverty,
He walked that lonesome road
Up Calvary.
