Kurt Kaiser

1934 - 2018 Harmonizer (last stanza) of "NATIONAL HYMN" in The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration Kurt Kaiser was born December 17, 1934, in Chicago. He attended American Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University. He moved to Waco, Texas in 1959 in order to join Word Music, where he later worked as vice president and director of music. He arranged and produced several albums. He composed more than 300 songs, and with Ralph Carmichael developed Christian youth musicals. He was a longtime member of the Seventh & James Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. He later helped start Dayspring Baptist Church in Waco. He was an acclaimed pianist who accompanied George Beverly Shea at Billy Graham crusades. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and was elected to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. He died November 12, 2018, in Waco. Fred Bock

1939 - 1998 Arranger of last vs. Harmonization of "NATIONAL HYMN" in Hymns for the Family of God Fred Bock was born in Great Neck, New York. He played the piano at age six and organ at age twelve. He attended Ithaca College, receiving his B.A. in Music Education. He earned his Masters and did Doctoral work in Church Music at the University of Southern California. Fred Bock was one of the most recognized and respected leaders in the world of church music. He was an accomplished composer, arranger, clinician, studio musician, organist, pianist, choral director and music publisher. He was the founder and director of publications for the music publishing division of Word, Inc. and later started Gentry Publication and other publishers of church music. He was also minister of music at Hollywood Presbyterian Church, where he served for 18 years. Before that, he served as minister of music at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles for 14 years. Person Name: Anónimo Translator of "Señor Jehová, omnipotente Dios" in Mil Voces para Celebrar In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

Vicente P. Mendoza

1875 - 1955 Person Name: V. Mendoza Author of "Himno De Alabanza" in Himnos Selectos Vicente Mendoza Born: December 24, 1875, Guadalajara, Mexico. Died: 1955, Mexico City, Mexico. Mendoza studied initially under Don Aurelio Ortega. At age of 11 he went to work in a Protestant print shop in Mexico City and helped produce El Evangelista Mexicano (The Mexican Evangelist) for the Methodist Church of the South; he rose to become its director for 17 years. Looking to improve himself, Mendoza entered a night school for workers, but later feeling the call to preach the Gospel, he entered the Presbyterian Seminary in Mexico City. When the seminary closed temporarily, Mendoza entered the Methodist Institute of Puebla, where he finished the course in theology. In 1898 he became a member of the Annual Conference of the Mexican Methodist Church. From 1915 to 1917, he belonged to the Southern Methodist Conference of California.
