January 17, 1940) is a well-known composer and arranger of Hispanic songs and hymns. She has degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso and Perkins School of Theology and the School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University. Marty Haugen

b. 1950 Person Name: Marty Haugen, b. 1950 Arranger of "SIMPLE GIFTS" in Gather (3rd ed.) Marty Haugen (b. 1950), is a prolific liturgical composer with many songs included in hymnals across the liturgical spectrum of North American hymnals and beyond, with many songs translated into different languages. He was raised in the American Lutheran Church, received a BA in psychology from Luther College, yet found his first position as a church musician in a Roman Catholic parish at a time when the Roman Catholic Church was undergoing profound liturgical and musical changes after Vatican II. Finding a vocation in that parish to provide accessible songs for worship, he continued to compose and to study, receiving an MA in pastoral studies at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul Minnesota. A number of liturgical settings were prepared for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and more than 400 of his compositions are available from several publishers, especially GIA Publications, who also produced some 30 recordings of his songs. He is composer-in-residence at Mayflower Community Congregational Church in Minneapolis and continues to compose and travel to speak and teach at worship events around the world. Emily Brink

Richard D. Wetzel

b. 1935 Harmonizer of "['Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free]" in The Worshipbook Richard D. Wetzel (b. 1935) received the Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Pittsburgh, studying under D�nes Bartha, Theodore Finney, and Robert Snow. He joined the faculty of Ohio University in 1970. Dr. Wetzel's area of emphasis is American Music, and he is published in The New Grove Dictionary of American Music and American National Biography. His book, Frontier Musicians, is a definitive work on German-American music of the 18th and 19th centuries. Wetzel is also a composer and hymnologist, and his liturgical music is found in numerous denominational hymnals, including those published by the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches and the United Church of Christ. Professor Wetzel was the recipient of Ohio University's Outstanding University Professor Award and is currently Chair of Graduate Studies in the School of Music.
