Atunci ştiu că mulţi sunt prinşi de păcatul viclean.
Îndoiala şi frica ’nzădar îmi fac chemare,
Nimic nu m’a scoate din Canaan.

Refren:
Eu locuesc pe munte, sub un cer clar şi senin;
Eu beau din izvorul care totdeaunai plin.
O da! eu mă hrănesc cu mană careo aflu pe deplin,
Căci eu locuesc în Canaan.

2 Jus furtuna şi ’ndoiala lumea o frământă;
Omenimea e in luptă cu vechiul duşman.
Sigur sunt cua mea viaţă în cetatea sfântă,
Şi n’am frică căci sunt in Canaan. [Refren]

3 Bată vântul cât îi place, nimic numi va face;
Adăpost şi siguranţă la Domnul eu am.

Charles Austin Miles USA 1868-1946. Born at Lakehurst, NJ, he attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and the University of PA. He became a pharmacist. He married Bertha H Haagen, and they had two sons: Charles and Russell. In 1892 he abandoned his pharmacy career and began writing gospel songs. At first he furnished compositions to the Hall-Mack Publishing Company, but soon became editor and manager, where he worked for 37 years. He felt he was serving God better in the gospel song writing business, than as a pharmacist.
