Chime, Beautiful Bells

Chime, beautiful bells, till all the wide world

Author: Lizzie DeArmond
Tune: [Chime, beautiful bells, till all the wide world]
Published in 1 hymnal

Audio files: MIDI

Representative Text

1 Chime, beautiful bells, till all the wide world
Shall hear of the wondrous salvation;
While mountain and dell, the glad echoes swell,
Good tidings to bear to each nation.

Refrain:
O ring, ye bells! The news proclaim,
Ring loud and clear, that all may hear,
Ring till the islands of the sea
Shall join the blessed jubilee.
O ring, ye bells! Till truth unfurled,
Triumphant waves o’er all the world,
Till with your notes the song shall ring,
Thro’ all the earth the Lord, the Lord is King!

2 Chime, beautiful bells, and gather them in,
The souls that in darkness are lying;
Ring softly and tell the message of love,
O ring! On the sweet echoes flying. [Refrain]

3 Chime, beautiful bells, till light from on high,
Thro’ all the dark clouds shall be breaking;
Chime sweetly and clear till hopeless ones hear,
And join in the blessed awaking. [Refrain]

Author: Lizzie DeArmond

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
