Father, While the Shadows Fall

Representative Text

1 Father, while the shadows fall,
With the twilight over all,
Deign to hear my evening prayer,
Make a little child thy care.

Refrain:
Take me in thy holy keeping
Till the morning break;
Guard me thro’ the darkness, sleeping,
Bless me when I wake.

2 ‘Twas thy hand that all the day
Scattered joys along my way,
Crowned my life with blessings sweet,
Kept from snares my careless feet. [Refrain]

3 Like thy patient love to me,
May my love to others be;
All the wrong that I have done,
Pardon, Lord, thro’ Christ the Son. [Refrain]
