1 Jesus, fiel Amigo, contigo salvo estou,
Seguro do perigo, Teu braço me livrou.
Nem quero mais prazeres dos tais que o mundo dá;
Te quero a Ti e queres contigo ter-me lá.

2 Quem me encherá de gozo senão o Teu amor?
Ninguém é tão bondoso como és, meu Salvador.
E tudo me forneces, pois tão amável és;
De mim Te compadeces, o que é mister provês.

3 Por que sentir tristeza? Teu Nome sem igual
É minha fortaleza, refúgio meu do mal.
Tomei a cruz e sigo a Ti, meu Redentor,
E sempre irá comigo o Teu real favor.

4 Ó glória vã, mundana, em vão me vens chamar!
Há glória sobre-humana que em ti não posso achar;

Küster, Samuel Christian Gottfried, son of S. C. K. Küster, inspector and chief pastor at Havelberg, Brandenburg, was born at Havelberg, Aug. 18, 1762. After studying at the University of Berlin (D.D. 1835) he became third pastor of the Friedrich-Werder Church at Berlin, in 1786; in 1793 second pastor; and in 1797 chief pastor and superintendent, on the death of his father (who had been called to this church in 1771). He died at Eberswalde (Neustadt-E.), near Berlin, Aug. 22, 1838 ( Allg. Burlingham, Hannah Kilham, eldest daughter of Henry Burlingham of Evesham. She died at Evesham, May 15, 1901, aged 59. Many of her translations from the German are noted in this Dictionary.
