God, we praise you, God, we bless you

Author: Christopher Martin Idle, 1938- Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 30 hymnals Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:13-16 Lyrics: 1 God, we praise you, God, we bless you, God, we name you sovereign Lord! Mighty King whom angels worship, Father, by your church adored: all creation shows your glory, heaven and earth draw near your throne, singing, 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts, and God alone!' 2 True apostles, faithful prophets, saints who set their world ablaze, martyrs, once unknown, unheeded, join one growing song of praise, while your church on earth confesses one majestic Trinity: Father, Son, th Holy Spirit, God our hope eternally. 3 Jesus Christ, the king of glory, everlasting Son of God, humble was your virgin mother, hard the lonely path you trod: by your cross is sin defeated, hell confronted face to face, heaven opened to believers, sinners justified by grace. 4 Christ, at God's right hand victorious, you will judge the world you made; Lord, in mercy help your servants for whose freedom you have paid: raise us up from dust to glory, guard us from all sin today; King enthroned above all praises, save your people, God, we pray. All depends on our possessing

Author: Catherine Winkworth, 1827-78 Meter: 8.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 26 hymnals Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Lyrics: 1 All depends on our possessing God's free grace and constant blessing, though all earthly wealth depart. They who trust with faith unshaken by their God are not forsaken and will keep a dauntless heart. 2 He who to this day has fed me and to many joys has led me, is and ever shall be mine. He who always gently schools me and who daily guides and rules me, will remain my help divine. 3 When with sorrow I am stricken, hope my heart anew will quicken, all my longing shall be stilled. To God's lovingkindness tender soul and body I surrender, for on him alone I build. 4 Well he knows what best to grant me; all the longing hopes that haunt me, joy and sorrow, have their day. I shall doubt your wisdom never; as God wills, so be it ever; I commit to him my way. 5 If my days on earth he lengthen, God my weary steps will strengthen; all my trust in him I place. Things of earth are not abiding, like a stream away are gliding; safe I anchor in his grace. Topics: Blessing; Comfort; Grace; Grief; Protection; Providence; The way; Trust in God; Wisdom Used With Tune: ALLES IST AN GOTTES SEGEN Text Sources: Anon. in Gesang-buch, Nuremberg, 1676

I Sing a Song of the Saints of God

Author: Lesbia Scott Meter: Irregular Appears in 24 hymnals Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:12 Lyrics: 1 I sing a song of the saints of God, patient and brave and true, who toiled and fought and lived and died for the Lord they loved and knew. And one was a doctor, and one was a queen, and one was a shepherdess on the green: they were all of them saints of God, and I mean, God helping, to be one too. 2 They loved their Lord so dear, so dear, and God’s love made them strong; and they followed the right, for Jesus’ sake, the whole of their good lives long. And one was a soldier, and one was a priest, and one was slain by a fierce wild beast: and there’s not any reason, no, not the least, why I shouldn’t be one too. 3 They lived not only in ages past; there are hundreds of thousands still; the world is bright with the joyous saints who love to do Jesus’ will. You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea, in church, or in trains, or in shops, or at tea; for the saints of God are just folk like me, and I mean to be one too. Put Peace into Each Other's Hands

Author: Fred Kaan, 1929- Meter: 8.7.8.7 Appears in 19 hymnals Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:11 Lyrics: 1 Put peace into each other's hands and like a treasure hold it; protect it like a candle flame, with tenderness enfold it. 2 Put peace into each other's hands with loving expectation; be gentle in your words and ways, in touch with God's creation. 3 Put peace into each other's hands, like bread we break for sharing; look people warmly in the eye: our life is meant for caring. 4 As at communion, shape your hands into a waiting cradle; the gift of Christ receive, revere, united round the table. 5 Put Christ into each other's hands, he is love's deepest measure; in love make peace, give peace a chance and share it like a treasure. How Lovely, Lord (Psalm 84)

Author: Arlo D. Duba Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 18 hymnals Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6-10 First Line: How lovely, Lord, how lovely Lyrics: 1 How lovely, Lord, how lovely is your abiding place; my soul is longing, fainting, to feast upon your grace. The sparrow finds a shelter, a place to build her nest; and so your temple calls us within its walls to rest. 2 In your blest courts to worship, O God, a single day is better than a thousand if I from you should stray. I'd rather keep the entrance and claim you as my Lord than revel in the riches the ways of sin afford. 3 A sun and shield forever are you, O Lord Most High; you shower us with blessings; no good will you deny. The saints, your grace receiving, from strength to strength shall go, and from their life shall rivers of blessing overflow. Topics: The Church; Gathering; Grace Used With Tune: MERLE’S TUNE
