Person Name: Anónimo Author of "La senda ancha dejaré" in Himnario Adventista del Séptimo Día In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

John T. Benson
1861 - 1930 Composer of "[I have left the land of death and sin]" in Favorites Number 7 Mr. John T. Benson, Sr. was born on February 19, 1861 in the Edgefield community in east Nashville and was brought up in the Tulip Street Methodist Church where his father was a charter member. John T. and his wife were involved in the founding of an independent holiness church that later became the Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Benson served as minister of music, first in the mission and then in the Church. The Bensons wrote some gospel songs, but their greatest contribution was in the publishing and distribution of song books and hymnals. He founded the John T Benson Publishing Company in Nashville. John Sr. died on June 24, 1930 in Nashville.

Speros Demetrios Athans
1883 - 1969 Person Name: S. D. Athans Translator of "Mi Mansión Celestial" in Himnos de Gloria Speros Demetrios Athans was born 1883 in Turkey. Raised in the Greek Orthodox Church, Athans left home at age 15, after his father’s death. He spent two years on the island of Corfu, Greece, and two more in Egypt, then went to Great Britain, where he worked as a sailor. In 1903 he went to America, and during immigration processing, someone gave him a New Testament in Greek. A year later, he joined a Nazarene church in Chicago, Illinois. He then enrolled in a Bible school and university. While in school in California, he began to study Spanish and to work with the Latino community. In 1910 he decided to work in evangelism. In 1931, he joined the Methodist missionary work in Latin America, retiring in 1949.

1865 - 1932 Person Name: Mrs. J. T. B. Author of "This World Is Not My Home" in Favorites Number 7 Mrs. John T. Benson (Eva Green Benson) was born on July 21, 1865 in Mississippi and died on August 3, 1932 in Haysboro, Tennesee. With her husband she compiled two hymnbooks: Living Water Songs No. 2 and Glory Songs, published by the Pentecostal Mission Publishing Company in Nashville, Tennessee.
