Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts

Author: Ray Palmer Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 558 hymnals Scripture: Jeremiah 29:13 Lyrics: 1 Jesus, thou Joy of loving hearts, thou Fount of life, thou Light of all, from the best bliss that earth imparts, we turn unfilled to head thy call. 2 Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood; thou savest those that on thee call; to them that seek thee thou art good, to them that find thee, all in all. 3 We taste thee, O thou living bread, and long to feast upon thee still; we drink of thee, the fountainhead, and thirst our souls from thee to fill. 4 Our restless spirits yearn for thee, where'er our changeful lot is cast, glad when thy gracious smile we see, blest when our faith can hold thee fast. 5 O Jesus, ever with us stay, make all our moments calm and bright; chase the dark night of sin away, shed o'er the world thy holy light. Author: William Cowper, 1731-1800 Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 1,129 hymnals Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11 Lyrics: 1 God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform; He plants His footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm. 2 Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust Him for His grace; Behind a frowning providence Faith sees a smiling face. 3 His purposes will ripen fast, Unfolding ev'ry hour; The bud may have a bitter taste, But sweet will be the flow'r. 4 Blind unbelief is sure to err And scan His work in vain; God is His own interpreter, And He will make it plain. 5 You fearful saints, fresh courage take; The clouds ye so much dread Are big with mercy and will break In blessings on your head. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see. 2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed! 3 The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; he will my shield and portion be as long as life endures. 4 Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; 'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. 5 When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we'd first begun. Come, trembling sinner, in whose breast

Author: Jones Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 702 hymnals Scripture: Jeremiah 29:13 Lyrics: 1 Come, trembling sinner, in whose breast A thousand thoughts revolve; Come, with your guilt and fear oppressed, And make this last resolve: 2 I'll go to Jesus, though my sins Like mountains round me close; I know his courts: I'll enter in, Whatever may oppose. 3 Prostrate I'll lie before his throne, And there my guilt confess; I'll tell him I'm a wretch undone, Without his sovereign grace. 4 Perhaps he will admit my plea, Perhaps will hear my prayer; But if I perish, I will pray, And perish only there. 5 I can not perish if I go: I am resolved to try; For if I stay away, I know I must for ever die. God Is Working His Purpose Out

Author: Arthur C. Ainger, 1841-1919 Meter: Irregular Appears in 93 hymnals Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11 Lyrics: 1 God is working his purpose out, as year succeeds to year: God is working his purpose out, and the time is drawing near. Nearer and nearer draws the time, the time that shall surely be, when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. 2 From the east to utmost west, where human feet have trod, by the mouth of many messengers goes forth the voice of God, "Give ear to me, you continents, you isles, give ear to me, that the earth may be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea." 3 March we forth in the strength of God, with the banner of Christ unfurled, that the light of the glorious Gospel of truth may shine throughout the world. Fight we the fight with sorrow and sin to set their captives free, that the earth may be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. 4 All we can do is nothing worth unless God blesses the deed. Vainly we hope for the harvest-tide till God gives life to the seed. Yet nearer and nearer draws the time, the time that shall surely be, when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. Used With Tune: PURPOSE
