Do you have a list?
If I knew what hymnals were involved I might be interested. If they are in good shape, a charity that sells used books might be a good place to donate them. If many of them are rarities, a university or seminary library might want them. (One of the Claremont schools has a particularly exhaustive hymnal collection.) Just thinking with my phone's keyboard...
Yes I do have a list
Hi,
I do have a spreadsheet of the hymnals, listing title, date of publication, and publisher.
Can you post it?
Can you post the list where those who might be interested can see if? Or email it to me at rosharuo@gmail.com
Have a hymnal not in Hymnary.org
It is The Hymnal, Army and Navy, Ed. by Ivan L. Bennett, United States Government Printing Office, Washington, 1942. Would Hymnary.org like a list of contents?
The Hymnal, Army Navy (1942)
We have this hymnal (https://hymnary.org/hymnal/ANH1942), but it needs editing. There is training involved to become an editor; see https://hymnary.org/wiki
Hymnal Collection Spreadsheet and Appraisal Advice
I am retired and now have time to deal with a hymnal collection that has been 40 years in the making. It contains over 150 hymnals, psalters, liturgical books and sacred song books, the oldest dating to early 1800s. Included are books from England, France, Germany, China, and the United States (including Shaker). To begin, I would like to ask opinions concerning the best spreadsheet currently recommended (how detailed, user friendly, possibly able to attach photos, etc.) Secondly, once I complete the spreadsheet, what advice does anyone have for professional appraisal of the collection? Following appraisal, what advice can you give for advertising this collection to potentially interested parties? At this point, I am undecided as to whether the collection might be sold, or given to a charitable institution for taxable purposes.
Thank you
Did you find a home for your hymnals?
I have been collecting hymnal for about 10 years now and am always looking for ones that I don't have. You can email me at ahofarms@gmail.com with a list of any that you might still be looking to part with and I could see if they're ones I don't have. Thanks much! Rebecca
