Psalm 30 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 72 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30:6-12 First Line: Firm was my health, my day was bright Lyrics: Firm was my health, my day was bright, And I presumed 'twould ne'er be night; Fondly I said within my heart, "Pleasure and peace shall ne'er depart." But I forgot thine arm was strong Which made my mountain stand so long: Soon as thy face began to hide, My health was gone, my comforts died. I cried aloud to thee, my God, "What canst thou profit by my blood? Deep in the dust can I declare Thy truth, or sing thy goodness there? "Hear me, O God of grace," I said, "And bring me from among the dead:" Thy word rebuked the pains I felt, Thy pard'ning love removed my guilt. My groans, and tears, and forms of woe Are turned to joy and praises now; I throw my sackcloth on the ground, And ease and gladness gird me round My tongue, the glory of my frame, Shall ne'er be silent of thy name; Thy praise shall sound through earth and heav'n For sickness healed and sins forgiv'n. Topics: Health sickness, and recovery; Recovery from Sickness; Sickness healed; Praise for health restored

O Lord, by Grace Delivered

Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 25 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30 Lyrics: 1 O Lord, by grace delivered, I now with songs extol; my foes you have not suffered to glory o'er my fall. O Lord, my God, I sought you, and you did heal and save; you, Lord, from death did ransom and keep me from the grave. 2 His holy name remember; you saints, Jehovah praise; his anger lasts a moment, his favor all our days; for sorrow, like a pilgrim, may tarry for a night, but joy the heart will gladden when dawns the morning light. 3 In prosp'rous days I boasted; unmoved I shall remain; for, Lord, by your good favor my cause you did maintain; I soon was sorely troubled, for you did hide your face; I cried to you, Jehovah, I sought Jehovah's grace. 4 What profit if I perish, if life you do not spare? Shall dust repeat your praises, shall it your truth declare? O Lord, on me have mercy, and my petition hear; that you may be my helper, in mercy, Lord, appear. 5 My grief is turned to gladness, to you my thanks I raise, who have removed my sorrow and girded me with praise; and now, no longer silent, my heart your praise will sing; O Lord, my God, forever my thanks to you I bring. Psalm 30: Lord, I will thee extol, for thou

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 9 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30 First Line: Lord, I will thee extol, for thou Lyrics: 1Lord, I will thee extol, for thou hast lifted me on high, And over me thou to rejoice mad’st not mine enemy. 2O thou who art the Lord my God, I in distress to thee, With loud cries lifted up my voice, and thou hast healed me. 3O Lord, my soul thou hast brought up, and rescu’d from the grave; That I to pit should not go down, alive thou didst me save. 4O ye that are his holy ones, sing praise unto the Lord; And give unto him thanks, when ye his holiness record. 5For but a moment lasts his wrath; life in his favour lies: Weeping may for a night endure, at morn doth joy arise. 6In my prosperity I said, that nothing shall me move. 7O Lord, thou hast my mountain made to stand strong by thy love: But when that thou, O gracious God, didst hide thy face from me, Then quickly was my prosp’rous state turn’d into misery. 8Wherefore unto the Lord my cry I caused to ascend: My humble supplication I to the Lord did send. 9What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to pit? Shall unto thee the dust give praise? thy truth declare shall it? 10Hear, Lord, have mercy; help me, Lord: 11Thou turned hast my sadness To dancing; yea, my sackcloth loos’d, and girded me with gladness; 12That sing thy praise my glory may, and never silent be. O Lord my God, for evermore I will give thanks to thee.

I'll celebrate thy Praises, Lord

Appears in 9 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30 Lyrics: 1 I'll celebrate thy Praises, Lord, who didst thy Pow'r employ To raise my drooping Head, and check my Foes insulting Joy. 2,3 In my Distress I cry'd to Thee, who kindly dist relieve, And from the Grave's expecting Jaws my hopeless Life retrieve. 4 Thus to his Courts, ye Saints of His, with Songs of Praise repair; With me commemorate his Truth, and providential Care. 5 His Wrath has but a Moment's Reign; His Favour no Decay: Your Night of Grief is recompens'd with Joy's returning Day. 6 But I, in prosp'rous Days, presum'd; no suddent Change I fear'd: Whilst in my sun-shine of Success no low'ring Cloud appeard. 7 But soon I found thy Favour, Lord, my Empire's only Trust; For when thou hidd'st thy Face, I saw my Honour laid in Dust. 8 Then, as I vainly had presum'd, my Error I confess'd; And thus with supplicating Voice, thy Mercy's Throne address'd: 9 "What Profit is there in my blood, "congeal'd by Death's cold Night? "Can silent Ashes speak thy praise, "thy wond'rous Truth recite? 10 "Hear me, O Lord; in mercy hear; "thy wonted Aid extend: "Do Thou send Help, on whom alone "I can for Help depend." 11 'Tis done! Thou hast my mournful Scene to Songs and Dances turn'd; Invested me in Robes of State, who late in Sack-cloth mourn'd. 12 Exalted thus, I'll gladly sing thy Praise in grateful Verse; And, as thy Favours endless are, thy endless Praise rehearse.
