Author: J. D. Barnes Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #16625 Meter: 11.11.11 D First Line: All hail to the Prince! His kingdom is spreading Refrain First Line: Hosanna! Hosanna! again and again Lyrics: 1 All hail to the Prince! His kingdom is spreading; O’er empires of sin we now herald His sway; His glorified cross in its beauty is shedding The savor of truth and the brightness of day. Refrain: Hosanna! Hosanna! again and again; Hosanna! Hosanna! for Jesus shall reign. 2 All hail to the Prince! whose star-beam of glory Drew forth to His worship the wise men of old; They poured forth their offerings— O wonderful story— Of myrrh and sweet incense, with treasures of gold. [Refrain] 3 All hail to the Prince! hear children reciting Most welcome response to the children of old; The angels are drawn by their songs so inviting, And listen to hear His great name so extolled. [Refrain] 4 Reign, reign, mighty Prince! Thy kingdom so glorious Shall compass all kingdoms by land and by sea. Earth’s millions shall laud Thee— Thy scepter victorious— And swell the loud anthems of triumph to Thee. [Refrain] Languages: English Tune Title: ROLLA

S. J. Vail

1818 - 1884 Person Name: Silas Jones Vail Composer of "ROLLA" in The Cyber Hymnal In his youth Silas Jones Vail learned the hatter's trade at Danbury, Ct. While still a young man, he went to New York and took employment in the fashionable hat store of William H. Beebe. Later he established himself in business as a hatter at 118 Fulton Street, where he was for many years successful. But the conditions of trade changed, and he could not change with them. After his failure in 1869 or 1870 he devoted his entire time and attention to music. He was the writer of much popular music for use in churches and Sunday schools. Pieces of music entitled "Scatter Seeds of Kindness," "Gates Ajar," "Close to Thee," "We Shall Sleep, but not Forever," and "Nothing but Leaves" were known to all church attendants twenty years ago. Fanny Crosby, the blind authoress, wrote expressly for him many of the verses he set to music. --Vail, Henry H. (Henry Hobart). Genealogy of some of the Vail family descended from Jeremiah Vail at Salem, Mass., 1639, p. 234.
