I will Try to Make Someone Happy Today

Author: Mary Ella Cornell Hymnal: New Songs of Pentecost #0 (1916) First Line: I've a Saviour whom I love and fain would please Refrain First Line: I will try, I will try to make someone happy today Lyrics: 1 I’ve a Saviour whom I love and fain would please, And he asks that I shall kind and helpful be; For He says “Whate’er ye do for one of these, These my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Refrain: I will try, I will try to make someone happy today, By a kindly word or a helpful deed, “For the Master’s sake” I’ll see a brother’s need; And I’ll try, really try in an earnest sort of a way, Yes, I’ll try, really try to make someone happy today. 2 There are those who do not know the love of God Who have wander’d far away in paths of sin; I can tell them of the road the Saviour trod, And of how He died their precious souls to win. [Refrain] 3 I’ve a brother or a sister in my home, Or there’s one who works beside me all the day; If I seek a chance I have not far to roam, For the kindly word the Saviour bids me say. [Refrain] Languages: English Tune Title: [I’ve a Savior whom I love and fain would please]

C. Austin Miles

1868 - 1946 Composer of "[I will try to make those happy whom I meet]" in Jubilate Charles Austin Miles USA 1868-1946. Born at Lakehurst, NJ, he attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and the University of PA. He became a pharmacist. He married Bertha H Haagen, and they had two sons: Charles and Russell. In 1892 he abandoned his pharmacy career and began writing gospel songs. At first he furnished compositions to the Hall-Mack Publishing Company, but soon became editor and manager, where he worked for 37 years. He felt he was serving God better in the gospel song writing business, than as a pharmacist. He published the following song books: “New songs of the gospel” (1900), “The service of praise” (1900), “The voice of praise” (1904), “The tribute of song” (1904), “New songs of the gospel #2” (1905), “Songs of service” (1910), “Ideal Sunday school hymns” (1912).
