I follow on, Guided by thee, Seeing not yet the hand That leadeth me; Hushed be my heart, and still, Fear I no further ill; Only to meet thy will My will shall be. 2 Riven the Rock for me, Thirst to relieve, Manna from heaven falls Fresh ev'ry eve; Never a want severe Causeth mine eye a tear, But thou dost whisper near, "Only believe!" 3 Often to Marah's brink Have I been bro't; Shrinking the cup to drink, Help I have sought; And with the prayer's ascent, Jesus the branch hath rent Quickly relief hath sent, Sweet'ning the draught. 4 Saviour! I long to walk Closer with thee; Led by thy guiding hand, Ever to be Constantly near thy side, Quickened and purified, Living for him who died Freely for me. Languages: English Tune Title: DOANE

I My Cross Have Taken

Author: Henry F. Lyte Hymnal: Christ in Song #343 (1908) Topics: Living His Life Following Jesus; Living His Life Following Jesus First Line: Jesus, I my cross have taken Lyrics: 1 Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow thee; All things else I have forsaken, Thou henceforth my all shalt be; Perish ev'ry fond ambition, All I've sought or hoped or known; Yet how much is my condition, God and heav'n are still my own. 2 Let the world despise and leave me, They have left my Saviour, too; Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art faithful, thou art true; And, while thou dost smile upon me, God of wisdom, love and might, Foes may hate, and friends may shun me; Show thy face, and all is bright. 3 Hast'ning on from grace to glory, Arm'd by faith and wing'd by pray'r; Heav'n's eternal day's before me, God's own hand is guiding there. Soon shall close my earthly mission, Swift shall pass these pilgrim days, Hope shall change to glad fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise. Languages: English Tune Title: ELLESIDE

When People Learned of Jesus Christ

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Hymnal: Come Away with Me #15 (1998) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: Christian Community Role as teachers following Jesus' model Lyrics: When people learned of Jesus Christ, they came to hear him preach. They longed to find out for themselves what Jesus had to teach. They pondered over parables, and gave his words much thought, but what they most remembered was the love that Jesus taught. He turned the water into wine and multiplied the bread, becalmed the heavy, stormy seas, and even raised the dead. The people wondered at the signs and miracles he wrought, but what they most remembered was the love that Jesus taught. He answered scribes and Pharisees who would with him contend. He healed the sick, the blind, the lame, and was the sinners' friend. They marveled at his prophecies, the healing that he brought, but what they most remembered was the love that Jesus taught. We may not work a miracle, fulfill a prophet's role, encourage sinners to repent, or make the wounded whole, but, as disciples, we can tell we've found what all have sought: the never-ending love of God, the love that Jesus taught. Dear God, at home, at work, at school, in all of life, we pray, help us be teachers who reveal your love for us today, that all the world may recognize the spirit that is caught when his disciples try to live the love that Jesus taught. Scripture: Matthew 23:8-10 Languages: English Tune Title: DEDICATION
