Great God, your love has called us here

Author: Brian Wren (b. 1936) Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 32 hymnals Topics: Our Response to God in the worship of God's house Lyrics: 1 Great God, your love has called us here, as we, by love, for love were made. Your living likeness still we bear, though marred, dishonoured, disobeyed. We come, with all our heart and mind your call to hear, your love to find. 2 We come with self-inflicted pains of broken trust and chosen wrong, half-free, half-bound by inner chains, by social forces swept along, by powers and systems close confined yet seeking hope for humankind. 3 Great God, in Christ you call our name and then receive us as your own, not through some merit, right or claim, but by your gracious love alone. We strain to glimpse your mercy seat and find you kneeling at our feet. 4 Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us, and call us friends. Suffer and serve till all are fed, and show how grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things. 5 Great God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share. Give us your Spirit's liberty to turn from guilt and dull despair and offer all that faith can do while love is making all things new. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:17 Used With Tune: MELITA

All people that on earth do dwell

Author: William Kethe, d. 1608? Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 721 hymnals Topics: The Church The House of God Lyrics: 1 All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell, Come ye before him, and rejoice. 2 Know that the Lord is God indeed; Without our aid he did us make; We are his folk, he doth us feed, And for his sheep he doth us take. A-men. 3 O enter then his gates with praise; Approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless his Name always, For it is seemly so to do. 4 For why? the Lord our God is good: His mercy is for ever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. 5 To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, The God whom heaven and earth adore, From men and from the angel-host Be praise and glory evermore. Amen. Scripture: Psalm 100 Used With Tune: OLD HUNDREDTH Text Sources: As in Day's Psalter, 1561

Love divine, all loves excelling

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-88 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1,863 hymnals Topics: House of God Lyrics: 1 Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown: Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure unbounded love thou art; visit us with thy salvation; enter every trembling heart. 2 Come, almighty, to deliver, let us all thy life receive; suddenly return, and never, never more thy temples leave: thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. 3 Finish then thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be, let us see thy great salvation, perfectly restored in thee: changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love and praise. Scripture: 1 John 4:7-8 Used With Tune: LOVE DIVINE

God Is Here

Author: Fred Pratt Green Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 47 hymnals Topics: Church House of God First Line: God is here! As we your people Lyrics: 1 God is here! As we your people meet to offer praise and prayer, may we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share. Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts wait the coming of the Spirit into open minds and hearts. 2 Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace; here are table, font, and pulpit; here the cross has central place. Here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech, here, in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each. 3 Here our children find a welcome in the Shepherd's flock and fold; here as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us, as of old. Here the servants of the Servant seek in worship to explore what it means in daily living to believe and to adore. 4 God of all, of church and kingdom, in an age of change and doubt keep us faithful to the gospel; help us work your purpose out. Here, in this day's dedication, all we have to give, receive; we, who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe! Used With Tune: BLAENWERN
