Be a Cheering Light

Author: James Rowe Appears in 9 hymnals First Line: As thro' life you journey Refrain First Line: Daily, hourly, be a cheering light Lyrics: 1. As thro’ life you journey, Be a cheering light, Like the sun at morning, Beautiful and bright; Shine in gloomy places, As you pass them by, Cheer the lives that sorrow, Gladden those who sigh. Refrain Daily, hourly, be a cheering light, Glowing, gleaming, beautiful and bright; Like a beacon burning in the night, Glowing, gleaming, beautiful and bright. 2. Like a beacon burning On a hill at night, You may shed around you Happiness and light; Try to help the weary, Thro’ the dreary days, Try to guide the wayward, From forbidden ways. [Refrain] 3. Steadily and brightly, Shining day by day, You will scatter blessings All along the way; Less of care and sorrow, Many hearts will know, If you gleam and glisten Everywhere you go. [Refrain] Used With Tune: [As thro' life you journey] Text Sources: Joyful Praise, by Charles H. Gabriel (Cincinnati, Ohio: Jennings & Graham, 1902), number 87
