Sing, my tongue, how glorious battle

Author: Venantius Honorius Clementianus Fortunatus (c. 535-609); John Mason Neale (1818-1866); William Mair (1830-1920); Arthur Wellesley Wotherspoon (1853-1936) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: Colossians 2:14-15 Lyrics: 1 Sing, my tongue, how glorious battle glorious victory became; and above the cross, his trophy, tell the triumph and the fame: tell how he, the earth's Redeemer, by his death for all o'ercame. 2 When the thirty years were ended, humbly lived for all to see, willingly he met his passion, born to set his people free: on the cross the Lamb is lifted, there the sacrifice to be. 3 His the nails, the spear, the spitting, reed and vinegar and gall; from his patient body piercèd blood and water streaming fall: earth and sea and stars and mankind by that stream are cleansèd all. 4 Faithful cross, above all other, one and only noble tree, none in foliage, none in blossom, none in fruit your match can be: focus of the world's redemption, your dear burden makes us free. 5 Praise and honour to the Father, praise and honour to the Son, praise and honour to the Spirit, ever Three and ever One, one in might, and one in glory, while eternal ages run. Topics: Christ Incarnate Passion and Death; Christian Year Good Friday; Jesus cross Used With Tune: PANGE LINGUA

In Water We Grow

Author: Brian Wren, 1936- Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 4 hymnals Scripture: Colossians 2:12 First Line: In water we grow, secure in the womb Lyrics: 1 In water we grow, secure in the womb, and speechlessly know love's safety and room. Baptizing and blessing, we publish for good the freeing, caressing safekeeping of God. 2 In water we wash: the dirt of each day, its trouble and rush are carried away. In Christ recreated by love's cleansing art, self will and self hatred dissolve and depart. 3 In water we dive, and cannot draw breath, then surface alive, rebounding from death. Our old self goes under, in Christ dead and drowned. We rise, washed in wonder, by love clad and crowned. 4 In water we dwell, for by its deep flow through bloodstream and cell, we live, think, and grow. Praise God, love outflowing, whose well of new birth baptizes our knowing, and waters the earth. Used With Tune: STANLEY BEACH
