A Stranger, knocking on a door

Author: Brian A. Wren, 1936- Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: John 10:11-16 Lyrics: 1 A Stranger, knocking on a door that opens only from inside, our withered spirits can restore if only we will open wide our hearts, ourselves, and give the key to love that longs to set us free. 2 A Shepherd, dying for the sheep, will gather others to the fold with love unstinting, side and deep, and tales of faith as yet untold. Each lamb, embraced, shall taste and know safe pasture, sun and room to grow. 3 A Saviour, risen from the dead, with marks of pain in hands and feet, in known to us in breaking bread, and draws us closer when we meet: majestic love most humbly bends to raise us up, and make us friends. 4 The Spirit makes an open door and calls us, gathered here today, to praise the past that's gone before then go along our pilgrim way: with Christ alive, and at our side, we'll take the future in our stride. Topics: Easter / Eastertide; God in Christ; Holy Spirit; Jesus Christ Shepherd; Journey / Pilgrimage / Pilgrims Used With Tune: CASAD

Above the voices of the world around me

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith (b. 1926) Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: John 10:15 Lyrics: 1 Above the voices of the world around me, my hopes and dreams, my cares and loves and fears, the long-awaited call of Christ has found me, the voice of Jesus echoes in my ears: 'I gave my life to break the cords that bind you, I rose from death to set your spirit free; tum from your sins and put the past behind you, take up your cross and come and follow me.' 2 What can I offer him who calls me to him? Only the wastes of sin and self and shame; a mind confused, a heart that never knew him, a tongue unskilled at naming Jesus' name. Yet at your call, and hungry for your blessing, drawn by that cross which moves a heart of stone, now Lord I come, my tale of sin confessing, and in repentance turn to you alone. 3 Lord, I believe; help now my unbelieving; I come in faith because your promise stands. Your word of pardon and of peace receiving, all that I am I place within your hands. Let me become what you shall choose to make me, freed from the guilt and burden of my sins. Jesus is mine, who never shall forsake me, and in his love my new-born life begins.
