Christopher M. Idle

b. 1938 Person Name: Christopher Idle Author of "The Works of the Lord Are Created" in The Worshiping Church Christopher Martin Idle (b. Bromley, Kent, England, 1938) was educated at Elthan College, St. Peter's College, Oxford, and Clifton Theological College in Bristol, and was ordained in the Church of England. He served churches in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria; London; and Oakley, Suffolk; and recently returned to London, where he is involved in various hymnal projects. A prolific author of articles on the Christian's public responsibilities, Idle has also published The Lion Book of Favorite Hymns (1980) and at least one hundred of his own hymns and biblical paraphrases. Some of his texts first appeared in hymnals published by the Jubilate Group, with which he is associated. He was also editor of Anglican Praise (1987). In 1998 Hope Publishing released Light Upon the River, a collection of 279 of his psalm and hymn texts, along with suggested tunes, scripture references, and commentary. Bert Polman

1875 - 1939 Translator (English) of "Wilt heden nu treden voor God den Heere" in Cantate Domino Born: March 8, 1875, Cloughfold, Lancashire, England. Died: December 14, 1939, Wimbledon, Surrey, England. Hoyle attended Regent’s Park College in London, then pastored in Sudbury, Aberdeen, and London (1900-17), and in Belvedere, Kent (1923-26). He edited the YMCA’s Red Triangle magazine, and was professor of theology at Western Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1934-36). He later returned to England, pastoring at the Baptist church in Kingston-on-Thames. Some of his work appears in the World Student Christian Federation hymnal Cantate Domino (1925). Eduard Kremser

1838 - 1914 Adapter of "KREMSER" in Voices Together Eduard Kremser was born 10 October 1838 in Vienna and died 26 November 1914 in Vienna. He was a choir director, conductor, composer and musicologist. He was the arranger of the music for male voices in Sechs altniederländische Volkslieder, a collection of six Dutch folk songs from Adriaan Valerius' collection Nederlandtsche gedenck-clanck. From this collection comes the tune which is named after him and is sung with the English text "We Gather Together." He also edited and arranged a 3 volume set of German and Austrian folk music: Wiener Lieder und Tänze: im Auftrage der Gemeindevertretimg der Stadt Wien (published 1912-1925) as well as other volumes of folk music.
